Now we will introduce how to make a super easy and cute cosmetic bag with pattern and the size is 24cm Length X 17cm Height, no gusset. This bag are perfect addition to your bathroom counter to keep the clutter at bay and they also can be made as the great gifts for your family and friends. So let’s get started!

What you ll need:

2 x main outer fabric pieces approx. 27 x 19.5cm for front & back.

2 x lining fabric pieces (it can be waterproof if you’re making a toiletry bag) approx. 27 x 19.5cm for internal.

2 x webbing tape for internal piping.

1 x regular 5# nylon zipper 29cm with 2cm seam allowance.

1 x 5# zipper slider with golden circle puller.

Note: The only thing extra needed would be the interfacing, we often use 1.5mm EVA interfacing as it helps the bag stay upright when open and in use. Nobody likes to be sifting through a cosmetics bag that has fallen all over itself.

The 1st step: Cutting the shape for the bag

  1. Layer the panels for front and back under the top to make cutting faster, cut both at the same time.
  2. Repeat with the second back panel and lining.
  3. There will now be 4 pieces of panel fabrics, two outside and two lining.

The 2nd step: Sew up the lining and zipper together

  1. Take one Lining Fabric panel and lay it face up on the sewing table, Place the zipper with the teeth facing up, center the zipper on the top of the lining panel and the zipper pull on the left.
  2. Now lay an outside fabric panel right side down, on top of the zipper unit. Match up the top so its all even and pin it. Sew across the top using about 2cm seam allowance (or more depending on the width of your zipper).
  3. When sewing over the zippers, go slow and use reverse to get your stitches very securely.

The 3rd step: Sew up the outer fabric & interfacing & lining and zipper together

  1. Fold that panel open and turn it over, and the zipper should be at the top. Lining fabric should be right side down, outside fabric should be right side up and the interfacing 1.5mm EVA between the outside fabric and lining. Now we’ll sew on the three layers, lay a lining fabric panel face up on the table, the interfacing in the middle, place the zipper panel on it with the lining closest to each other, they will be right sides facing each other.
  2. Now place the outside fabric panel on the top, face down so that both outside panels have right sides facing each other. Clip the top and sew about 2cm seam along the top again with the zipper sandwiched in between.
  3. Open up the bag so that each side has one Lining panel and one Outside panel with the Outside panel facing up. The zipper top should be up. Finger press down the center and sew a 1/8seam allowance away from the zipper to secure the sides (and to make everything nice and flat).

The 4th step: Binding / piping with the webbing of the internal bag

  1. Once that is complete, flip the bag so that both Outside panels are facing each other and both Lining panels are facing each other (Outside on the right side, interfacing in the middle and Lining on the left side). Make sure the zipper is half open under the fabric layers.
  2. Pin the around the perimeter, starting with the center nearest the zipper ends, leaving the corners unpinned and a small section of the lining unpinned. Those will be sewn in later steps.
  3. Sew around edges of the bag, again leaving the corners (both little edges of the corner) open and a small 3-4” section of the lining open (to turn the bag in the final step).

The final step: Turning over the bag and shape the bag

Using the zipper bag opening, pull the bag right side out, and making sure to the bag shape can stay as what we like properly. Finally a simple cosmetic bags done as shown in below picture!
